5. player. 52. . QB. Ohio State. Dwayne Haskins

Forgotten in the Kyler Murray/Tua Tagovailoa two-horse Heisman race was the other finalist, one of the strongest third-place finishers in the history of the award in Dwayne Haskins.

Heading into the Rose Bowl, Haskins has thrown for 4580 yards and 47 touchdowns, keeping a flawed Buckeyes team afloat and leading them to a Big Ten Championship. His stock has soared this season after taking over for four-year starter J.T. Barrett, with it reaching its apex after his evisceration of the highly regarded Michigan defense in The Game.

Against the then No. 1 ranked pass defense in the country, Haskins thew for 396 yards and six touchdowns as the Buckeyes embarrassed the rival Wolverines 62-39.

Haskins probably isn’t as pro-ready as Justin Herbert, but I think his long-term potential far exceeds the Oregon QB. He won’t be ready to play as a rookie, which could be problematic for a Jaguars team that feels they are competent quarterbacking away from being a contender again.

Blake Bortles is likely to be released this offseason, and I think they’ll look to identify their QB of the future in the draft, while also potentially signing a place-holder veteran QB who can run the show for a year or two while Haskins sits and learns.

If Jonah Williams is still on the board, I believe that would give Jacksonville pause as they could solidify their offensive line and search for a game manager whose main job will be to hand-off to Leonard Fournette.
