2019 NFL Mock Draft: Dwayne Haskins atop one team’s Christmas list
The Buccaneers would be ecstatic to see Greedy Williams still on the board if they were picking at No. 7.
The redshirt sophomore CB will be skipping the Fiesta Bowl, but he was a lockdown corner in his two seasons starting for an LSU program that has produced a lot of pro talent in the secondary over the years.
Greedy burst onto the scene as a redshirt freshman in 2017 by picking off six passes. His numbers were down this season, coming up with just a pair of picks, but that had more to do with quarterbacks ignoring his side of the field so as to not give him the opportunity to make a play that could impact the game.
Tampa has had one of the worst defenses in the league this season, and poor play from their secondary has been a big reason why the Bucs will miss the playoffs for the 11th straight season. They currently rank dead last in the NFL in yards per pass attempt given up.
Tampa needs upgrades at corner, and will be looking to replace veteran CB Brent Grimes as he enters free agency; the 35-year-old isn’t likely to be retained after a rocky 2018 season, and even if he was, he doesn’t have much left in the tank.
The Bucs would be unlikely to resist Greedy Williams if he is available, but if he isn’t, they could look at improving their offensive line. They could also be tempted to pull the trigger on a QB if they are indeed ready to move on from Jameis Winston, and could be intrigued in this scenario with Justin Herbert still on the board.
