8. player. 31. . QB. Oregon. Justin Herbert

I’m not sold on Justin Herbert as a pro prospect; he was only the fourth most efficient passer in a weak PAC-12 this season. He has been compared to former North Dakota State QB and No. 2 pick by the Eagles Carson Wentz, but I haven’t seen the arm talent from Herbert that Wentz displayed as a prospect.

Herbert could decide to return to Eugene for his junior season, although the allure of being a Top 10 pick in the draft might be too much to pass up. If he was going to turn pro, he made a bit of a curious decision to play in the Redbox Bowl instead of sitting out to avoid a potential injury, particularly with the nagging issues he has dealt with this season already.

The Giants have looked better over the last few weeks, but will still need to identify their QB of the future during this draft cycle. This has to be Eli Manning’s last hurrah in the Big Apple, and while the Giants could be players for a veteran in the free-agent market or via trade, they’ll still want to begin grooming a QB for the future.

New York landed Saquon Barkley in last season’s first round, and while the running back looks to already be one of the best backs in the league as a rookie, they passed on obtaining a potential franchise QB, effectively punting the 2018 season as a result.

If the Giants once again choose to eschew a QB in the first round, they could look at bulking up their offensive line by selecting someone like Greg Little, or they could grab an edge rusher like Clelin Ferrell in hopes of improving their pedestrian pass rush.
