Boston College Football: Bold predictions for First Responder Bowl vs Boise St
2. Anthony Brown will be the X-factor if Dillon can’t play
If Dillon is unable to suit up due to injury, the young quarterback Anthony Brown will have to take the reins and step up for the Eagles to have a shot at creating offense.
The redshirt sophomore had a promising start to his first season as a starter in 2017 before he was sidelined by a knee injury 10 games into the season.
In 2018, Brown’s resurgence was complimented by the supporting cast of Dillon. He has tossed for 2,121 passing yards and 20 touchdowns this year.
Boston College is trying to bring a three-game losing streak to an end. In the last two games in particular, Brown’s play was marked by more inconsistency than ideal –– he threw for an equal number of touchdowns (four) than he did interceptions against Florida State and Syracuse.
Despite throwing two giveaways apiece in each of the last two contests, Brown threw for nearly 300 yards against the Seminoles and 251 yards against the Orange.
He will certainly be tested against this Boise State defense. The Broncos are 38th in the country in total defense, but they hold the opposition to just 1.3 passing touchdowns per game and 1.2 rushing touchdowns per game.
Brown’s performance will be even more pertinent to the Eagles’ offense if Dillon is out for the game. He has shown the ability to run at times, but it’s not the crux of his game.
Even if Dillon is able to play, he most likely won’t be 100 percent, which means Brown will have to step up his game with an opportunity to close out his season with a quality performance.
