4. UCLA

Coaching and system fit

Chip Kelly is still working his way back into coaching at the collegiate level, but his trend has been positive. After starting the season off with five consecutive losses, Coach Kelly’s UCLA Bruins finished the season’s last seven games, 3-4. Two of these last four losses, however, could have easily been wins. The Bruins lost at Arizona State by only three points. They lost to Stanford by a single possession as well.

Wilton Speight, a Michigan transfer himself, started and ended the season as UCLA’s starting quarterback, but there was plenty of pain in between. Dorian Thompson-Robinson played quarterback the majority of the year for UCLA. He played well at times, but at others, was quite disappointing.

Like Thompson-Robinson, Brandon Wimbush is a talented dual-threat quarterback who can fit in well with Coach Kelly’s style of offense. Winbush would bring a winning mentality to the program that Thompson-Robinson has not yet had an opportunity to experience. If UCLA wants to make a legitimate run at the Pac-12 conference title in 2019, it would behoove them to make a strong effort towards Brandon Wimbush.
