Baylor Football: Bears edge Vandy in close Texas Bowl
By Zach Bigalke
1. Baylor defense figured out how to stop Ke’Shawn Vaughn on the field
Entering this year’s Texas Bowl, one of the biggest questions was whether Ke’Shawn Vaughn would be healthy to face Baylor. After sitting out a year on a redshirt after his undergraduate transfer from Illinois, Vaughn went just over 1000 yards in the final regular-season game against Tennessee before exiting with an injury to his left arm.
In the first half, Vaughn showed he was back to full health. Putting himself well over 1000 yards for the season, the redshirt junior only needed seven carries to rip off 150 yards. With runs of 68 and 69 yards, Vaughn reached halftime with a pair of touchdowns as well. It was an impressive performance that looked ready to secure Vaughn the honor of Texas Bowl MVP.
Instead, Baylor successfully figured out how to slow down the former Illini tailback. After the intermission, Vaughn managed to post only 93 yards for in the second half. Vaughn finished the day with 243 yards and those two touchdowns, as the Bears contained the Commodore star and prevented him from getting into the endzone in the second half.
