3. Mike Norvell

Memphis coach Mike Norvell has overcome losing his coordinators and keeps on keepin’ on. In three years at Memphis Norvell has a record of 26-14 including three bowl appearances. The black mark on his record is he is 0-3 in those bowl games and could never get over the UCF hump. Norvell just lost offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham to Auburn but continued to score points.

Memphis finished the 2018 season ranked 23rd per the S&P+ and with the 8th ranked offense. The Tigers scored 42.9 points per game this season placing them at 8th in the nation. Quarterback Brady White, who followed Dillingham and Norvell from Arizona State, threw for 3,296 yards with 26 touchdowns and 8.4 yards per attempt. Running back Darrell Henderson added over 1900 yards rushing with 25 touchdowns from scrimmage.

The Tigers defense was only ranked 75th per the S&P+ but the kicking game was 28th in the country. The hiring of a really good defensive mind down in Coral Gables plus Norvell’s offensive prowess would do wonders for Miami.
