2. Neal Brown

Troy’s Neal Brown was on a lot of head coaching short lists earlier this post-season but he wasn’t hired by any major programs and returned to Troy. This could be a huge coup for Miami. Brown has been the head football coach at Troy for four years, posting a 4-8 record in 2015 before three-straight double-digit win seasons. Brown’s record is 35-16 as a head coach including 3-0 in bowl games.

Troy only scored 30.7 points per game in 2018, good for 51st in FBS football. The Trojans finished 2018 ranked 46th overall per the S&P+ and only 82nd on offense. On defense, the Trojans were 35th and 11th in the kicking game. Brown would have to hire an offensive coordinator with a big name to lure offensive players back into the Miami program.

Troy running back BJ Smith ran for 1,183 yards and 13 touchdowns on the season and that’s Miami’s strong suit. The ‘Canes have a great stable of running backs in Travis Homer, Deejay Dallas, and Cam’Ron Davis as well as the injured Lorenzo Lingard.
