Former Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer is a free agent. Notre Dame football should hire him before someone else does.

Notre Dame had their shot at college football’s greatest prize and once again came up short. The Irish have been chasing that elusive national championship since the Skip Holtz days and thought they were ready to challenge Clemson for a spot in the title game in 2018. Not only were the Irish wrong, they never came close.

When the lights came on Notre Dame found themselves shellshocked and out of luck. The heavy underdogs fell by four scores to a Clemson squad who have made the Playoff and the Championship Game an annual tradition. The Tigers have found the perfect combination of players and coaching to earn their bid at greatness. Notre Dame hasn’t and Brian Kelly is running out of answers.

It’s a bit ludicrous to suggest Brian Kelly is a bad football coach. He’s found modest success in South Bend and reached the College Football Playoff and the BCS Championship Game. But his lack of trophies makes “good” no longer good enough for Notre Dame. With Urban Meyer still on the market, it’s time the Irish find a great head coach to replace their good one. Here are five reasons Notre Dame should hire Urban Meyer to replace Brian Kelly.
