1. The Big 12 really just can’t compare to the SEC

The Big 12 has one big struggle: defense. It’s been a running joke that this conference has a defense optional policy, but at this point that seems to be less and less like a joke and more and more like the truth. We saw Texas almost lose to Kansas, again. We saw Oklahoma struggle with Army. Each of the teams seemed to play close games because everyone has a high powered offense that is accompanied by a not so good defense.

As it stands, the Big 12 is 2-3 on the year in bowl games. The winners? TCU in the weirdest Cheez-It Bowl we have ever seen and Baylor who outplayed Vanderbilt, though so did everyone else. The conference only has two bowl games left — the Sugar Bowl and the Liberty Bowl.

On the other side, you have the SEC where most teams have at least a decent defense. Yes, I know that Vanderbilt and South Carolina have already lost their bowl games. The SEC doesn’t really claim Vanderbilt for anything more than grades and for South Carolina, well it’s just unfortunate. However, the majority of the SEC bowl games still are waiting to be played. As it stands now though, the conference is 3-2 with the biggest of those wins being Alabama over Oklahoma to head to the National Championship.

Let’s just do that little transitive property that everyone loves to do. Oklahoma lost to Texas down to the wire. Georgia lost to Alabama down to the wire. Oklahoma then beat Texas in the Big 12 title game. Oklahoma lost to Alabama big time earlier this week. That means Georgia is better than Texas right? Well, we will just have to wait and see.
