4. Neal Brown (HC/Troy)

With a Dollar General Bowl victory over Buffalo, Neal Brown led Troy to their third consecutive 10-win season, and might have his best Trojans team to date in 2019, which could give him pause about taking over another group-of-five program.

It’s no secret that Brown covets a power-five job, and his performance at Troy has no doubt been worthy of one, and that opportunity seems to be on the horizon for him, especially if Troy is as good as they have the potential to be next season.

Brown had some flirtations with Louisville, but the Cardinals ultimately went with Appalachian State’s Scott Satterfield after apparently being unable to get over Brown’s ties to Kentucky.

Brown has spent the majority of his playing and coaching career in the south and the northeast, but he did spend three seasons as the offensive coordinator at Texas Tech during Tommy Tuberville’s tenure in Lubbock.

If Houston is able to convince Brown that a move to a power-five conference could be on the immediate horizon, this is an intriguing enough destination that it could be tempting for Brown to make the jump from Troy.

My guess is that Brown feels like he’s one more strong season with the Trojans away from landing a more coveted job, and that would lead to him turning down the Houston job if it is eventually offered to him.
