1. Clayton Thorson is (Statistically) Northwestern’s greatest quarterback
Clayton Thorson was on many NFL Draft boards early in the season and will likely find his team in the early rounds this coming April. Although he may not have seen the same features as Daniel Jones, Drew Lock or Will Grier, he finished up his career as one of the greatest quarterbacks in Northwestern history.
Thorson surpassed Brett Basanez‘s 10,580-yard passing record in his final game and sits atop of the Northwestern career passing ranks with 10,731 passing yards. His 61 passing touchdowns is far and away the most touchdowns thrown over a single Northwestern career with Len Williams and Brett Basanez coming in second with 44. His 2016 season saw the most passing touchdowns in a single season and he holds two of the top five greatest single-seasons for a Northwestern passer.
His Draft stock is up in the air considering his NFL size and build compared to his inconsistent deep ball. He currently has a third-round projection, but in a down quarterback class he could sneak his way into the second round if the right team likes him. Nevertheless, Northwestern fans are wishing Thorson a long and prosperous NFL career after giving them four great years under center.
