1. The Playoff should be special

For all of the pundits, fans and some coaches who want to expand the Playoff, I say don’t do it. The bowl games are just the undercard of the holiday season leading up to the main event which should be the playoff. It’s like the WWE, just because it’s not ‘the match’ doesn’t mean it can’t wow you or be really fun to watch.

Sometimes games are just entertaining like Houston being steamrolled by Army or seeing UCF upset Auburn in the Peach Bowl a year ago. Either way, being in “the other bowls” is no different than pitting an eight-seed against Alabama just to watch even four-seeds be dominated by the Crimson Tide.

If the playoff was 16-teams or even eight teams it wouldn’t have the same feeling as the final four does. The College Football Playoff Committee has felt the need to not place the best two teams as the top-seeds, case in point Alabama in 2017, because they had one-loss. I think the point of the College Football Playoff is to find out which team is the very best and it hasn’t taken a playoff to truly find that answer.

If the playoff is expanded the games will lose their luster and wind up just another tournament. The NCAA March Madness Tournament is fun, sure, but how many times do you see a Cinderella run actually win the national championship? I want a special playoff. Four teams is plenty enough to keep a shine on the system while not taking away from the bowl season.
