45. . CB. Georgia. DeAndre Baker . 10. player

The Broncos probably weren’t quite as bad as their 6-10 record indicates, they were just plagued by inconsistency. They actually finished 13th in DVOA, ahead of a couple of playoff teams in Dallas and Philadelphia. Six of Denver’s losses came by one-score.

Denver showed the ability to beat anyone, earning wins over the Seahawks and Chargers and putting a scare into the Chiefs twice. They also showed an ability to lose to anyone, dropping their last four games of the regular season, with two of the defeats coming to the lowly 49ers and Raiders.

Vance Joseph was fired after the season, and whoever is brought in to replace him will have a big role in where they go with this pick, although John Elway remains firmly involved in all decisions regarding personnel, despite a continued track-record of incompetence.

It’s possible that the Broncos take a QB here if they become enamored with a guy like Drew Lock or Daniel Jones, or one of the other quarterbacks in the crowded second-tier make a big enough impression in the pre-draft process. Case Keenum had a tough year in his first season at Mile High, but he’s likely to remain the team’s starting QB at least for next season.

If a QB doesn’t stick out, grabbing a cornerback makes a lot of sense with the impending free agencies of Bradley Roby and Tramaine Brock. Denver struggled against the pass this year despite still maintaining a good defense, ranking in a tie for 23rd in the league in yards per pass attempt given up.

Behind Greedy Williams, there currently looks to be a fight between Georgia’s DeAndre Baker and Washington’s Byron Murphy. I’d give Baker the nod currently, but wouldn’t be surprised if Murphy vaults over him in the coming months.
