2019 NFL Mock Draft: Projected first round after college football season
The Ravens won the AFC North thanks to one of the league’s best defenses, and with good young talent at every level, Baltimore’s defensive prowess should provide the staying power for them to remain competitive in the AFC.
The No. 1 priority this offseason should be to surround Lamar Jackson with talent to aid in his development. The rookie QB struggled in his playoff debut, culminating in a home loss to the Chargers to end the Ravens’ season. He has a ways to go as a passer, but the former Heisman Trophy winner has flashed a ton of potential. If they want him to realize that potential, though, they’ll need to bring in some legitimate receivers.
Baltimore got by in 2018 with mostly replacement-level veteran receivers. John Brown, Willie Snead, and Michael Crabtree were all solid, but none are No. 1 options at WR. Crabtree used to be, but he’s now a complementary piece at this stage of his career. Brown also hits free agency this offseason, and will likely be suiting up elsewhere in 2019.
N’Keal Harry has the coveted size and speed that will put him in contention to be the top receiver taken in April. He’s a big target that is an obvious possession target, but he’s also surprisingly quick with nifty moves in the open field. Arizona State utilized Harry as a punt returner as well as a receiver, and he thrived in the role.
Harry produced back-to-back 1000 yard seasons in Tempe, and would represent a young WR that Jackson can grow with over the next few years.
Baltimore could look for defensive help as well with the aging Terrell Suggs potentially retiring and Brent Urban’s free agency opening up the need for a pass rusher off the edge. They might seriously consider Montez Sweat or Brian Burns as a result.
