2019 NFL Mock Draft: Projected first round after college football season
Regardless of how this season ends for the Rams, and it might well end with Sean McVay hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, LA’s biggest offseason priority will be finding an edge rusher to aid a pass rush that has been non-existent outside of the dominant Aaron Donald on the interior.
Brian Burns was the lone bright spot in an otherwise forgettable season in Tallahassee. Burns managed 15.5 tackles-for-loss and 10 sacks as Florida State missed a bowl game for the first time in 36 years under first year head coach Willie Taggart.
Burns has a lot of potential as a pass rusher, but he went quiet during the biggest stretch of the season for Florida State, registering just a single sack in November as the Seminoles lost three of their final four games to miss a bowl.
The Rams could also look at a defensive tackle like Ohio State’s Dre’Mont Jones with this pick if they don’t retain Ndamukong Suh. Suh was playing this year on a one-year deal and could be looking for a long-term contract this offseason that the Rams are unlikely going to be able to shell out.
It would also be smart to focus on getting younger on the offensive line. Only Rob Havenstein among the starters on the line is signed past next offseason, and current starting left tackle Andrew Whitworth just turned 37 and could retire after the season.
