2019 NFL Mock Draft: Projected first round after college football season
Tampa Bay finished with the league’s worst defense according to DVOA, and their leaky secondary was a major reason why. The Bucs finished the season 26th in the NFL in passing defense, while giving up a league-worst 8.2 yards per pass attempt.
They need an influx of youth in the secondary, and LSU’s Greedy Williams is the top defensive back prospect in this year’s class.
Williams burst onto the scene as a redshirt freshman at LSU in 2017 picking off six passes, emerging as the latest of a long line of elite LSU defensive backs. His numbers were down in 2018 as he managed just two interceptions, but that had more to do with quarterbacks ignoring his side of the field than a regression on his part.
Tampa Bay needs help everywhere as they’ve now missed the postseason for the 11th straight season, and will be welcoming in their fourth new head coach over the last seven years.
If Greedy is on the board, I think it would be tough for the Bucs to resist pulling the trigger on the potential lockdown corner. If he isn’t there, or if they just decide to go in another direction, they could target Ole Miss’ Greg Little with the uncertainty surrounding their offensive line heading into next season.
