Oklahoma State football: 5 takeaways from Cowboys’ 2018 season
By John Scimeca
2. Stoic Mike Gundy
The former Midwest City Bomber and OSU alum earned a one-year contract extension through 2023 after earning his 13th consecutive bowl game appearance.
Many pointed to Mike Gundy’s changed sideline demeanor in 2018 as a negative, alleging that he wasn’t firing up his team at key moments in big games.
Perhaps Gundy is keeping everything in perspective — look at coaches like Urban Meyer and Bob Stoops who retire in their mid-fifties for mental and emotional well-being. Regardless, Gundy did plenty of animating and cheering during the Cowboys’ season-ending bowl win against Missouri, and is signed to stay in Stillwater for at least five more seasons.
Gundy finished the 2018 season with a 121-59 career record at Oklahoma State, good for a .672 winning percentage.
