3. Wake Forest

Florida State put together their most complete game of the season against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, who were not very good in 2018.

The Noles started slow, with two three-and-outs that resulted in a total of two yards and a stripped 49-yard touchdown reception from Keith Gavin that gave the ball back to Wake Forest. The Noles trailed 10-0 late in the first quarter, which wasn’t at all surprising.

But the floodgates opened when Cam Akers broke off a big run to begin the second half, scampering 58 yards for a touchdown—his second of the day.

The Noles talented running back, who rushed for over 1,000 yards his freshman season, saw few opportunities to get loose in 2018. One could almost feel his relief as he ran free of the Noles’ atrocious offensive line and into the open field.

The Noles had the benefit of playing with the lead for the remainder of the game, which meant Taggart could run his preferred offense—run-heavy with big shots down the field. It was a satisfying and all too brief look for the Seminoles—and one that fans hope to see a lot more of in 2019.
