5. Pat Green makes waves in Kinnick

Iowa football made national headlines with “The Wave” last season in which all the fans in Kinnick Stadium turn and wave to the children in upper floors of the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, just adjacent to the east of the stadium. Ever since, fans from far and wide have traveled to Iowa City on Saturday’s during the fall so they can participate in an event dubbed “The best new tradition in college football”

Halfway through the 2017 season, the sound crew in Kinnick Stadium began using the song “Wave on Wave” by country artist Pat Green whenever “The Wave” took place. This led to a fantastic idea by the Iowa Hawkeye Marching Band and the idea became a reality during halftime of the Iowa-UNI game this season. The Iowa and UNI marching bands joined each other on the field and Pat Green did a live performance of “Wave on Wave” from the south endzone at Kinnick Stadium.

The event itself was awesome, being there made that much better, as it was a spectacle in which I’ll never forget, looking down from the press box at nearly 70,000 people waving the cell phone lights toward the Children’s Hospital.
