2019 NFL Mock Draft: How high will Kyler Murray go in projected first round?
There’s still no way that Haskins is on the board at No. 6 when the Giants pick comes up. Someone, potentially even the Giants, is going to move up to grab the Ohio State signal-caller within the first three picks of the first round. He’s too good, and the QB class is too weak for him to stay on the board this long.
I expect a bidding war between the Giants and Jaguars to ensue as the draft inches closer-and-closer. They’ll be in contact with the top three teams, and it might even take moving up to No. 1 with the Cardinals to ensure Haskins’ availability. Neither team would want to mortgage future assets to move up to No. 2 or No. 3 just to be usurped by the other moving up to No. 1.
Mocking trades is still a bit too messy this early in the process, so I’m still going to avoid that for now.
Haskins was often the forgotten QB this year with all the headlines going to Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa. Haskins finished a distant third in the Heisman voting, but in any other year that didn’t produce the two most efficient quarterback seasons in the history of the sport.
Haskins threw for 50 touchdowns as he led the Buckeyes to a Big Ten Championship and a Rose Bowl win over Washington in his lone season as the team’s starting quarterback.
Haskins would benefit from a redshirt year in the NFL, and the Giants would likely be able to provide him with that with the likelihood that they keep Eli Manning around for one final turn in the Big Apple.
Adding Haskins with Saquon Barkley and Odell Beckham Jr. would give the Giants a feared offensive trio for years to come in the NFC.
