5. Brett Seither (TE/Clearwater, FL) – 3 Stars

Nick Saban is making an aggressive late push for Clearwater, Florida tight end Brett Seither. Saban has had an in-home visit with Seither and the three-star prospect is expected to be in Tuscaloosa for an official visit this weekend.

Alabama officially offered Seither a couple of weeks ago and his recruitment has been heating up since then. He picked up recent offers from Miami and Georgia Tech as well as holding offers from Georgia, Michigan State, and TCU.

Alabama has one tight end signed in this class already with four-star Jahleel Billingsley from Chicago signing during the early period. It’s still a position of need for Alabama, however, after losing both starters from 2018.

Hale Hentges exhausted his eligibility and Irv Smith Jr. chose to forego his senior season to declare early for the NFL Draft. Smith is expected to compete for the top tight end spot and could potentially be selected in the first round of April’s draft.

Alabama signed one tight end last year and currently only has one committed during this process. If they strike out on Seither, then this will be one of the Tide’s biggest positions of need in the 2020 recruiting cycle.

Currently on the roster in terms of scholarship players, rising redshirt junior Miller Forristall is really the only player at the position with game experience. Rising redshirt sophomore Major Tennison has played sparingly, and will be in line for an increased role in 2019.

Having a guy like Irv Smith who could stretch the field from that position was a huge boost for Tua Tagovailoa and the Alabama offense as a whole as they set school records for yardage and efficiency. That guy might not exist on the 2019 Tide team, which could lead to more four-wide sets to take advantage of the gluttony of talent at wide receiver.
