No. 5: Doug Nester, Offensive Guard

While Holgorsen struggled to sign top-tier talent from the Mountain State, Neal Brown aims to improve in that area for his Mountaineers. “Keeping the best players in the state at home is a top priority,” Brown said in his introductory press conference. And with plenty of talent currently in their backyard, Brown could make a real splash in recruiting with just a couple of commitments from in-state players.

Four-star guard Doug Nester is considered one of the ten-best recruits at his position in the 2019 recruiting class. The 6-foot-6, 305 lb. Spring Valley product is already committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes – and holds offers from a slew of Power-5 programs – but could always change his mind and “come home” to the Mountaineers.

Per 247Sports’ Verified Results, Nester runs a 5.52 40-yard dash and a 4.77 shuttle. At the 2019 All-American Bowl, Nester’s hands measured at 10.25 inches, while he recorded a vertical of 25.2 inches.

Nester would add some much-needed size and depth to an interior offensive line that struggled at times last season. The Mountaineers did a bit of shuffling up front, too, and if Nester is the player everyone thinks he is, immediate playing time wouldn’t be out of the question.
