Reese’s Senior Bowl 2019: 5 prospects who improved NFL draft stock
UMass WR Andy Isabella had a bit of an up-and-down week during practice, but when the lights turned on the brightest on Saturday, Isabella did what he does best. He turned it on and produced a big game for the North side, helping his team fight back and get the win after an early deficit.
He caught seven passes for 79 yards and a touchdown during the game, as well as adding 14 rushing yards on an end-around. Isabella runs precise routes, and his quick feet allow him to get separation from defensive backs. He also possesses excellent ability after the catch, turning a screen pass into a touchdown in the third quarter when he broke a tackle and then showed his burst to get into the endzone.
Isabella was one of my players to watch this week. He produced in a big way during his time at UMass, leading the FBS in receiving yards as a senior this year. Isabella accumulated over 3500 yards and 30 touchdowns over his last three seasons with the Minutemen.
He often saved his best performances for when he would go against power-five opposition. In November, he torched Georgia for 15 catches, 219 yards, and a pair of touchdowns between the hedges in Athens.
Isabella is undersized, but he’s a shifty guy who should have a long career in the NFL. He had to make some adjustments this week as he worked predominantly out of the slot, which is what he will be asked to do in the NFL, after working almost exclusively on the outside during his time in college.
He won’t threaten to break into the first round, but I think Isabella will be a productive player wherever he ends up. I think he has a chance to be a day two selection in either the second or third round, with the Senior Bowl offering him another opportunity to put his skills on display.
