Texas defensive lineman Charles Omenihu had a strong senior season that propelled the Longhorns to a berth in the Big 12 Championship game and an eventual surprising Sugar Bowl victory over Georgia, but he still didn’t have a lot of NFL Draft buzz coming into this week in Mobile.

Omenihu was productive during his time in Austin, particularly during his senior season. He flashes a lot of potential on tape, with few weaknesses, making his under-the-radar status a bit peculiar. He had 18 tackles-for-loss and 9.5 sacks this past season at Texas.

He has outstanding physical tools and great size; his only potential weakness is that he looks a bit raw from a technique standpoint, but any NFL position coach worth his salt will get that figured out quickly when Omenihu gets drafted.

The Texas product had a strong week in Mobile that he capped off with a havoc-wreaking performance during the game on Saturday. Omenihu blew past a tight end for a tackle in the backfield during the first quarter with a nice, quick swim move. The tight end had no idea what hit him.

In the third quarter, however, he made what was arguably the play of the game. With the North team trailing by two, Omenihu fought through blockers and ended up with a strip-sack of Auburn’s Jarrett Stidham that the North recovered. That ultimately led to Isabella’s go-ahead touchdown, putting the North team up for good.

Omenihu’s stock is quickly rising thanks to his performance at the Senior Bowl further elucidating all of his tools. He has the versatility to play in multiple schemes across the entire defensive line. I think he’s locked in to day two of the draft now, and should hear his name called early on during the second round.
