Guys with a chip on their shoulders — B

It was great to see guys like Khalen Saunders from Western Illinois getting an early sack and other moments of great pass rush pressure. Andy Isabella’s receiving performance solidified the notion that he can compete with the best, in case you still had any doubts. And a solid fourth quarter performance by Buffalo’s Tyree Jackson (13-of-21, 165 yards, two touchdowns and one pick) might have been a boost to his draft stock.

Either way, these upstarts were able to make a name for themselves against players from the nation’s best teams like Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma on the field.

Stadium Beverage Selection — A

Rum-type drinks available in pineapples? Tables laden with liquor near a spot of gravel at the corner of the field and the end zone seats? Walking beer vendors and alcohol concessions on each concourse? That’s a win in anybody’s book.

Perhaps best of all, there was no last call. When asked late in the third quarter, one vendor replied, “Nobody told me anything!” with a laugh. I laughed, too, and ordered two beers just in case.

Beer selection included your typical Bud heavy, Bud Light, and Miller Light, in addition to Blue Moon (alright!) and even some Henry’s sparkling water (I have so many questions). Wine was available at the liquor tables along with Jack Daniel’s and other hard liquor. A group of rowdy self-identified Miami fans was delighted to find such a selection of booze on top of the beer.

The only complaint, to be nit-picking, was that the price was $6 a pop for beer, and that the limes ran out at one table. Other than that, if the tailgating didn’t have you covered, the stadium had everything you needed!
