2019 NFL Draft: 10 players who could fall out of the first round
Projecting wide receivers in this class is as tough as it has ever been; there isn’t a no-brainer prospect who has separated himself from the pack. There’s a ton of quality depth, however, with a bevy of talented options who can make instant impacts in the NFL.
Oklahoma’s Marquise Brown is an intriguing prospect because I could see him, with strong workouts, jump to the top of the board at his position. Likewise, with a mediocre combine and pro-day, Brown could easily fall down to day two of the draft.
Brown, the cousin of Steelers All-Pro Antonio Brown, was insanely productive in Norman over the last two years, putting together consecutive 1,000 yard seasons as the preferred target for Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray.
He also greatly benefited from getting to play with back-to-back Heisman winning quarterbacks, a fact that could have made him stand out more than he would have otherwise.
Brown is undeniably talented with quick feet and burst and a preternatural route-running ability that allows him to gain separation from defensive backs. He’s undersized, however, at just 5-foot-10, and due to that he has trouble when it comes to contested catch situations. He’s had a few drops and struggles to maintain the catch through contact.
He’s a terror in the open field though and his ability to stretch the field vertically makes him extremely attractive to scouts. He’ll certainly have first round interest, but there are numerous receivers who are clawing their way into first round consideration.
Brown will need to stand out during the pre-draft process or he could slip to day two as others pass him with impressive showings at the combine.
