2019 NFL Mock Draft: Projected first round after Super Bowl LIII
By Dana Becker
What kept the Kansas City Chiefs from reaching the Super Bowl? An inability to stop New England on third down and on the ground. Both of those issues could be resolved with the selection of Dre’Mont Jones of Ohio State.
Jones, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs over 285 pounds, is a perfect run-stopper for the Kansas City defense. He had 43 tackles with 13 for loss and 8.5 sacks this past season, flashing his athleticism with a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown.
After taking a redshirt, Jones was a staple along the defensive line for the Buckeyes, finishing his three-year career with 114 tackles, including 22 behind the line of scrimmage and 9.5 sacks.
The Chiefs ranked 32nd in the league in first downs allowed, 27th in rush yards allowed and 29th in rushing touchdowns surrendered. Getting those issues under control should lead to even more success next season.
