DT. Houston. Ed Oliver. 8. player. 50.

Some believed Ed Oliver was ready for the NFL after his breakout season in 2016 with Houston, as he showed man-like skills with 22 tackles for loss and five sacks. Oliver also knocked down six passes and forced two fumbles that year, which turned out to be just the first of three incredible seasons with the Cougars.

As a sophomore, Oliver recorded a career-high 73 tackles with 16.5 being for loss and 5.5 sacks. He played in just eight games this past year due to injuries, finishing with 14.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and three sacks. For his career, Oliver had 53 tackles for loss with 13.5 sacks, 11 passes defended and five forced fumbles.

Detroit has a glaring need for someone to put pressure on the quarterback, and the 6-foot-3, 292-pound two-time All-American can do just that. Oliver earned 2017 American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors, and would be a good bet for rookie of the year honors, as well.
