Nebraska needs speed at linebacker in order to stop the run better. The Huskers finished 12th in the Big Ten at stopping the run last season and need a presence on the outside that can keep up with the better backs of the Big Ten in Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor, Northwestern’s Isaiah Bowser, Indiana’s Stevie Scott and Ohio State’s JK Dobbins. Eugene Asante is just the man for the job.

Asante served as an athlete on both sides of the ball in high school. When he wasn’t lighting up running backs as a linebacker he was lighting up linebackers as a running back. His explosive speed reflects on both sides of the ball and he can look for holes in the defense that he can fill because he knows how to find them as a running back.

Nebraska needs someone who can replace Luke Gifford’s production from a season ago and Asante could play right away opposite of Tyrin Ferguson.

Asante announced his final five as Nebraska, Maryland, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Florida State. Moreover, 247Sports has him heading to Blacksburg, Va., to join the Hokies in his home-state over the other schools but Nebraska and Florida State remain strong contenders and North Carolina picked up a late visit from the four-star.

If I’m Scott Frost, I’m making sure that I place Asante in one of those four spots I have left.
