The U will be back, soon

If the early returns are any indication, the Manny Diaz era at Miami is off to a tremendous start. After the surprise retirement of Mark Richt and subsequent rehiring of Diaz from Temple, the Canes have scorched the recruiting trails and the Transfer Portal. Miami sits at No. 3 in the 2020 ranks following the 2019 National Signing Day.

Some of their early success is a numbers game. Miami has nine commits, one fewer than top-ranked Alabama. But those nine include four of the top 20 players in the state of Florida.

Add quarterback transfer Tate Martell, who will most likely make his playing debut for the Canes in 2020, and this class is shaping up to be in line with some of the Miami classes of old.

The Canes have the advantage of sitting in a recruiting hot bed, but this might be the first year in quite some time they’re able to translate it into a Top 5 class. If they do it’ll be their first Top 5 finish since 2008 – the No. 1 class which includes the likes of Arthur Brown, Marcus Forston and Brandon Harris.
