Texas A&M and Texas will forever be intertwined

The Aggies held a Top 3 recruiting class nearly from start to finish in the 2019 cycle. Then an odd set of circumstances dropped the maroon and white down to No. 4 while former/current/quasi rival Texas surged from the back end of the Top 10, supplanting the Aggies to seize the No. 3 spot.

The Longhorns were able to jump the Aggies because of the

transfer

commitment of former USC signee Bru McCoy. After inking with the Trojans in the early signing period, McCoy enrolled in classes, but had a change of heart following Kliff Kingsbury’s departure to the NFL.

Does a signee turned-transfer turned-commit count towards national recruiting rankings? 247 Sports says yes. The Longhorns agree while the Aggies cry foul. At the end of the day, the optics are little more than window dressing. McCoy is a Longhorn now and the animosity between these two programs continues to mount.

Texas A&M is in the Top 10 of the 2020 ranks. Texas, just like in 2019, lags behind. The same bickering that ensued this year will continue into next year, and beyond. Please, pretty pretty, please. Can we finally settle this on the field?
