2019 NFL Draft: Top 10 Quarterback prospects, ranked
6. Ryan Finley — NC State
A lesser-known fact is that Ryan Finley began his college career at Boise State. That is, until he transferred to NC State where he played three seasons as its starting quarterback.
Throughout his three years in Raleigh, Finley steadily increased his production. In each of those seasons, he threw for at least 3,000 passing yards and 17 touchdowns.
He capped off a robust college career by having his best as a passer in 2018, throwing for a career-high 3,928 yards and 25 touchdowns.
Finley uses an over-the-top release to get the ball downfield. He understands his reads and is a good decision-maker –– with a career completion percentage of 65 percent.
He most certainly has the size to be an NFL quarterback at 6-foot-4, 212 pounds. For his size, he runs pretty well and showcased the ability to perform the run-pass option.
Finley mostly stands out for the fact that he can accurately zip the ball into a receiver on the run in tight coverage –– like on slant routes, for example.
In all likelihood, Finley won’t be selected to takeover an offense on a moment’s notice, as he is projected to be chosen to fill a backup role.
Nonetheless, his five years of experience at the college level should serve him well from a maturity perspective.
Upsides: Size, quick release, accuracy
Downsides: Some under thrown deep balls, struggled against better competition
