Despite a nearly flawless three-year career as a starter for Alabama, Jonah Williams has begun to get picked apart in the pre-draft process due to some feeling like he doesn’t project as a tackle in the NFL and will have to shift to guard.

The problem many foresee for Williams is his lack of length causing him issues against big edge-rushers in the NFL, but that isn’t something that ever seemed to affect him in college. Williams rarely allowed pressures from left tackle, with tremendous power and hip movement helping him dominate his opponent.

Williams is strong in pass protection, but he’s an absolute road grater in the running game, consistently winning at the point-of-attack to open up holes for runners. Williams’ technique is already refined, with little-to-no wasted motion when he gets in and out of sets.

I think it’s foolish to write Williams off as strictly a guard in the NFL. I don’t have any trouble seeing him as a tackle at the next level, one with long-term Pro Bowl potential. Regardless of whether he kicks inside to guard or not, the Alabama product is the draft’s top offensive lineman, in my opinion.

Williams could go as high as No. 3 to the Jets, with the Buccaneers, Jaguars, and Bills also having a need a the position inside the Top 10. If he does fall, the Packers could be intrigued at No. 12, with the absolute lowest I can see him going being No. 18 to Minnesota.
