2019 NFL Mock Draft: Projected first round before NFL Combine
At this position, Washington should have a couple of quarterbacks available to choose from to move the franchise into the future.
Are any of them franchise-changing quarterbacks in my opinion? No. I firmly believe this pick can be used on other positions of need on either side of the ball and the Redskins can find a capable quarterback with similar talent in the second round.
However, I’m not calling the shots for the franchise and I strongly believe they will select a quarterback to replace Alex Smith. Daniel Jones would be a solid fit in Jay Gruden’s West Coast offense and should be the pick for the Redskins.
He’s got sneaky athleticism and helped lead Duke back to a bowl game this season. His numbers aren’t going to blow you away but he’s a capable quarterback who can make good short and intermediate throws without much difficulty.
The real question will be his ability to accurately throw the ball down the field as Duke’s offense didn’t have the playmakers on the outside to really stretch defenses. Jones averaged less than seven yards per attempt for his career and that could scream game manager to the Washington fan base.
If for some reason Jones isn’t available look at Ryan Finley from North Carolina State to get heavy consideration.
