MORGANTOWN, WV – NOVEMBER 14: Kris Boyd /

Kris Boyd projects as a solid corner in the NFL. Though not exceptionally big (5-foot-11, 195 pounds) or fast (4.45 40-yard dash time), Boyd instead mucks up his assignment’s progress with tough, physical play. Boyd excels at press coverage, but can lose faster players in longer, deeper routes.

Boyd displayed his coverage skills for the Longhorns by defending 15 passes and recording one interception in 2018. Additionally, Boyd isn’t afraid to take on running backs on the perimeter and finished with four and a half tackles for loss last season. The Draft Network pegs tackling and run defense as Boyd’s best attributes.

His run support, competitiveness and fiery demeanor will only take Boyd so far, however. After a disappointing showing during the 2018 season and an even more frustrating outing at the Senior Bowl where he picked up three flags and weighed-in smaller than expected, Boyd is in desperate need of a rebound at the combine. Adding a few pounds of muscle and surprising in the 40-yard dash could reignite some interest in the All-Big 12 First-Team honoree. Otherwise, Boyd might have to wait later in the draft process than he initially hoped.
