NFL Draft: Top 25 prospects from the Big 12
The Ringer describes Dalton Risner as a “barrel-chested blocker who plays with remarkable consistency; offers positional versatility at the next level.” At 6-foot-5, 308 pounds, Risner looks the part of a star NFL offensive lineman.
Depending on the scout, some think Risner is better suited to play tackle and some think he’ll be more successful on the inside of the line – maybe even center. The Athletic’s Dane Brugler likes Risner at guard; whereas, Bleacher Report‘s Matt Miller believes he “can play tackle at a high level in the NFL.” The lack of agreement on what position he should play can only help Risner’s draft stock, as it demonstrates his versatility. Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling writes that Risner’s versatility gives him the highest floor of any offensive lineman in the 2019 draft. Not necessarily an exciting description, but a valuable and important note.
Concerns do exist, however. Risner lacks the length most scouts crave in their high-end tackle prospects and his low-ceiling athletically gives room for pause. If teams decide to focus their attention on Risner’s college production (Risner didn’t allow a sack in either of his final two seasons at Kansas State) and even his positive Senior Bowl performance, he could be a sneaky first round pick.
