2019 NFL Draft Combine: Top 10 Players to Watch
Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa has been the presumptive No. 1 overall pick for many months, with his core muscle injury that cost him the remainder of his Buckeyes career doing little to dissuade pundits and scouts from being high on his long-term potential.
It will be interesting to see him back on a football field for the first time since his injury, however, and his medical evaluation will have the attention of all the teams in attendance. Barring an unlikely setback, Bosa is a Top-5 lock and remains the favorite to be selected No. 1 overall in the draft, despite the Cardinals having other needs as more of a priority than an edge rusher.
Bosa could perform well enough to cause other teams to look at packaging an extra pick or two and moving up with the Cardinals at No. 1 to select the talented Ohio State product.
Bosa isn’t likely to factor in as a 3-4 outside linebacker given his size, but he’s an ideal 4-3 or 3-4 defensive end that fits any scheme. A smart defensive coaching staff would also look to get him some reps each game at defensive tackle, allowing his strength and quickness to really be a matchup disadvantage for interior offensive linemen.
If everything checks out on his medical, Bosa is likely to maintain his perch at the top of big boards, although some other players have begun pushing for that mantle. He might not be the No. 1 pick, however, with the Cardinals having more pressing needs and the potential for a team like the Giants or Jaguars moving up to select Dwayne Haskins with the first pick to ensure they aren’t usurped by another team.
