2. Edge rushers moving up boards

Texas’ Charles Omenihu was one of the big winners at the Senior Bowl in January, and his meteoric rise up draft boards continued on Friday when his measurements were taken. The former-Longhorn isn’t a true-edge rusher, but he’s a combo defensive end/tackle depending on the scheme who has continued to impress.

He came in at 6-foot-6 and 280 pounds with 36-inch arms and an absurd 85 and a half inch wingspan, the longest among his position group. Omenihu worked his way into the Top-50 range with his work in Mobile; don’t be surprised if he leaves Indianapolis as a first rounder.

Florida State’s Brian Burns and Florida’s Jachai Polite got their combines off to strong starts with their measurements as well. Both came into this week with concerns over their weights and the label of tweener being assigned to them due to their perceived lack of size.

Burns weighed in at 249 pounds, a full 15 pounds or so up from what many people expected. At 6-foot-5, he has the frame to tack on some extra pounds as well, meaning he should be a fit for any scheme and is not destined to strictly be a 3-4 outside linebacker, although that remains his cleanest fit.

Polite weighed in at 258 pounds standing at 6-foot-2 and some change. The Florida edge-rusher shredded his tweener label emphatically as well. Look for both players to test well when they get going with their on-field drills on Saturday. Each has the potential to rocket up inside the Top-10, and there could be an opening at the very top of the draft board now…
