This draft class is deep with quality wide receivers, and Ohio State’s Parris Campbell had seen himself slipping a bit down draft boards since the end of the college football season. The former-Buckeye once looked like a potential first round pick, but had fallen to the second day of the projected draft, with some seeing him as even a third day prospect.

Campbell flipped his arrow back upward with a strong showing at the combine, though, where he was able to showcase his elite athletic ability. Campbell ran a blazing 4.31 40-yard dash to lead all wide receivers, and surpassed 40-inches with his vertical jump.

Campbell is a dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands, and his top-end speed and quick change-of-direction ability will make him a nightmare for NFL defenses in the open field.

The concerns for Campbell in the pre-draft process has been his lack of route-running prowess, but he looked very smooth running the gauntlet at the combine. There’s very little wasted-motion when he comes in and out of breaks, and he’s likely to develop the route-running skills once he works with NFL coaches.

He’s a bit undersized at slightly under 6-feet tall, but Campbell figures to be a jack-of-all trades at the next level. A smart team will utilize his game-breaking speed and explosiveness in a variety of ways; he should be a factor as a receiver, runner, and return man at the next level.

The Ohio State product solidified his standing as a second round pick, and it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see a team take a flier on him near the end of the first round. He’s got sky-high potential, and could be a dynamic playmaker in the NFL.
