2019 NFL Draft: Projected First Round after NFL Combine
Greedy Williams has slipped a little bit through no fault of his own. There’s just so many premier defensive lineman this class, along with the likelihood that two quarterbacks will now be picked in the Top 10, that Williams has dropped from his comfortable perch to the very edge of the first 10 picks. There’s no guarantee that his spot as the draft’s top corner is secured, either, with the meteoric rise of Washington’s Byron Murphy threatening to upset the established status quo.
Williams has a ton of potential, but he has been slapped with the label of not always playing up to his potential. He made some business-decisions this past year at LSU, and will have to show more of a willingness to throw his nose into the fray when it comes to tackling ball-carriers at the next level.
He’s an excellent cover corner, though, with outstanding ball skills that could lead him to being a ball-hawk in the NFL. The Broncos would be thrilled to see him available with the No. 10 pick. Denver appears to be out of the QB market now after pulling off a trade for Ravens QB Joe Flacco, handing him the reins and hoping he can pull them back to the playoffs in the AFC.
Denver is likely to be active in free-agency and in the draft looking for help at corner. Chris Harris has one side held down, but the Broncos are short on proven commodities after him. Both Bradley Roby and Tramaine Brock are free agents this offseason. Even if Denver targets replacements in free agency, I still think there’s a strong chance they take a corner with the 10th pick.
Houston’s Ed Oliver and the top offensive linemen on the board will also be intriguing for John Elway and company.
