2019 NFL Draft: Projected First Round after NFL Combine
Adding depth on the defensive line and finding a tackle to play alongside Fletcher Cox is atop the Eagles’ offseason wish list. They’re in a great position to nab an extremely talented defensive line prospect late in the first round with a ridiculously loaded class causing someone as talented as Christian Wilkins to be available this late on day one.
Wilkins isn’t likely to be the interior disruptive some of his other classmates could turn out to be against the pass, but he would be a perfect compliment to Cox with his ability to occupy double-teams and shed blocks to make plays at the line of scrimmage against the run.
Wilkins is an exceptional locker room guy and there’s never been a question about his motor. He plays hard from the opening snap to the final whistle. He’s got a quick first step and overwhelming power that he properly leverages to find his way into the backfield.
Philadelphia is another team at this point that would be happy to see Josh Jacobs still on the board. If he gets here, I’m not sure they could resist the urge to take him. They could also look at Iowa State’s David Montgomery to add a dynamic playmaker out of the backfield, but he, and any other running back, would likely be too much of a reach in the first round.
A defensive back is also a need for the Eagles, particularly at safety, so that could be a direction they choose to go as well with all the draft’s top prospects at the position still on the board.
