4. Will Florida State be a contender once more?

It was an embarrassing year to say the least for Florida State and Seminole alumni last year, as the program saw its 36-year bowl streak come to an end. The saying around FSU this spring could revolve around hitting bottom before you can get back to the top.

Willie Taggart is experienced at this process, as the 42-year-old turned South Florida and Western Kentucky back into winners. The Hilltoppers went from 2-10 to 7-5, while the Bulls from 2-10 to 10-2. He finished 7-5 in his lone season at Oregon before taking the Florida State job.

Taggart took to the transfer road this offseason, signing Wisconsin’s Alex Hornibrook to command the offense. Hornibrook will not be around for the spring, as he completes his degree at Wisconsin to be eligible in the fall. That might put the offense behind a bit, but as a three-year starter, Hornibrook should be able to catch up.

What the Seminoles really need is a return to running the football. As a collective unit last year, Florida State had just 1,093 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns. Former top prospect Cam Akers did the brunt of that work, and should be the focal point to the unit this spring as he begins his junior season.
