The Bills have made some moves in free agency to improve their wide receiving corps, signing several more complimentary pieces like John Brown, Andre Roberts, and Cole Beasley. They still don’t have a true No. 1 receiver, though, and Ole Miss’ D.K. Metcalf could be that No. 1 option to team with Josh Allen.

Metcalf was another big winner at the combine. He ran a blazing 4.33 40-yard-dash (the fastest recorded time for a player at 228 pounds or above), hit 40.5 inches on his vertical jump, and put up 27 reps on the bench press. There’s some legitimate questions about his change-of-direction ability and how quickly he’ll be able to get in and out of breaks, but Metcalf clinched his spot as the draft’s top receiver and he could go in the Top 10 in April.

Much like Sweat, Metcalf’s numbers didn’t always match his athletic prowess, but he was on pace for a big year in 2018 before a scary neck injury ended his season. He has a very high ceiling, and while the Julio Jones comparisons are probably going too far, he has the potential to be a difference maker at the position.

Buffalo has several other needs, and might choose to focus on those in the first round after signing three receivers in free agency. Solidifying the offensive line will be important this offseason as they look to protect Allen and surround him with the talent to see if he is the franchise quarterback they drafted him to be. Alabama’s Jonah Williams would be of particular interest for the Bills here.

If they decide to go defense, Houston’s Ed Oliver would be intriguing here, too.
