2019 NFL Mock Draft: Odell Beckham trade throws first round into chaos
Don’t look now, but suddenly the Raiders could have some real offensive firepower. Pulling off the Antonio Brown trade and signing Tyrell Williams should solve Oakland’s need at receiver, allowing them to potentially look for another offensive weapon with one of their three first round picks.
Conventional wisdom tells you to avoid selecting a running back with a first round pick, but Oakland is armed with four picks in the first 35 of this draft, and Alabama’s Josh Jacobs has emerged as the consensus top player at the position this year by a wide margin.
Jacobs is the perfect back for the modern NFL with his ability to impact the game in a variety of ways. To go along with his excellent ability as a traditional runner, with his array of jump cuts and power moves to bowl his way through defenders, Jacobs is a strong receiver out of the backfield and willing down field blocker.
Jacobs isn’t just a check-down option; he’s more than capable of making catches down the field. He’s an excellent blocker as well, always willing to lower his shoulder to help escort a teammate for extra yardage. He could be a factor as a kick-returner too, where he shined during his time in Tuscaloosa.
Jacobs is the perfect safety-valve option that Derek Carr needs alongside him. He can be utilized as a weapon in a variety of ways, and his addition to go along with Brown and Williams will make the Oakland offense tough to deal with moving forward.
