Our first breakout candidate for the 2019 West Virginia football team is junior tight end Jovani Haskins. After spending much of last season in a backup role to Trevon Wesco, Haskins appears ready to take that next step.

At 6-foot-4, Haskins will have an advantage everywhere he lines up. For most linebackers he’ll be too fast to cover, and he’s too physical for defensive backs. He’s listed as a tight end/fullback on the roster, so don’t think he won’t stick his nose in there and block.

Haskins hauled in 16 passes last season for 148 yards and a touchdown, but as his role grows larger, so will his production. But the Mountaineers are also replacing a quarterback who could place the ball anywhere on the field. So while Haskins might be ready to take that next step, he’ll need the help of his quarterback to really prove himself.
