Ohio State Football 2019 Mock Draft: Where will the Buckeyes land?
By Phil Poling
The Oakland Raiders add another Buckeye in the 2019 NFL Draft when they make Parris Campbell their second round selection. No. 35 may seem a bit early for him to come off the board, but you can’t teach speed, and Campbell has tons of it. At the NFL Combine, Campbell posted a 4.31 40-yard dash, the third-fastest recorded time.
The Raiders recently acquired superstar wide receiver Antonio Brown from the Pittsburgh Steelers, but Jordy Nelson and Jared Cook won’t be returning to the team, leaving plenty opportunities in the air in the passing game. Campbell’s speed alone is enough to get him on the field, but if he’s able to polish his route-running abilities, the Oakland offense could be more than just the Antonio Brown Show.
At Ohio State, Campbell displayed his talents in all facets of the game – receiving, running, and on special teams. And while his role varied from season-to-season, he still managed to produce decent career numbers. He caught 143 passes for 1,768 yards and scored 15 touchdowns through the air; he added 23 rushing attempts, 210 yards, and two more scores on the ground.
Given the opportunity to learn from and play opposite the best wide receiver in the NFL is a privilege not many young receivers get. If Campbell falls into such a situation, though, he could be an even better player in the NFL than the one we witnessed at Ohio State.
