Ohio State Football 2019 Mock Draft: Where will the Buckeyes land?
By Phil Poling
If this draft class wasn’t so top-heavy with defensive potential, Ohio State’s Kendall Sheffield would be getting a lot more attention. Whether that’s a good thing or not? I’m not sure. But the Pittsburgh Steelers take a flyer on him at No. 141 with one of their 10 total draft picks.
Sheffield stood out as a consensus 5-star recruit and originally committed to Alabama out of high school. After redshirting, though, he went to junior college before arriving at Ohio State.
Prior to the 2018 season, many believed Sheffield would follow the recent trend of Buckeyes in the secondary going early in the draft. And while his speed and athleticism are elite, that’s about all he has in common with those who came before him. Without a trait other than speed that really jumps off the screen, Sheffield could fall in the 2019 NFL Draft. He didn’t get to work out at the NFL Combine, though, so his stock could improve if he gets healthy and in front of some scouts.
The Pittsburgh Steelers can use all the help they can get in the secondary, too, and would welcome an athlete with Sheffield’s potential.
