The Packers have been uncharacteristically big spenders in free agency, solving their dormant pass rush by inking Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith to big contracts. Green Bay is obviously accelerating things as they look to take advantage of their shrinking Super Bowl window under Aaron Rodgers.

With the additions off the edge, the Packers can move on to what were their ancillary draft needs beforehand. One of the things they will undoubtedly want to do is surround Rodgers with more receiving help – at wide receiver or tight end – as well as looking to bolster an offensive line that struggled to keep Rodgers upright last season.

Even with the addition of Marcedes Lewis and Jimmy Graham’s presence on the roster, I still think the team will do their due diligence on the top tight ends in this class. Neither Graham nor Lewis is guaranteed a spot on the roster in 2019.

T.J. Hockenson is the most well-rounded tight end in this class, with his ability as a run-blocker and a receiver. He can line up with his hand in the dirt or split out wide and be a mismatch against smaller corners. He’s quick enough to make life difficult for linebackers tasked with covering him as well.

Green Bay is armed with a pair of first round picks stemming from a draft day trade with the Saints last year. They’ll take a long look at offensive line with this pick, with versatile players like Alabama’s Jonah Williams and Oklahoma’s Cody Ford both likely making sense. They should still be able to grab a quality lineman at the end of the first round, though, while nabbing the draft’s top tight end at No. 12.
