WVU. Will Grier. 24. player. 28. . Quarterback

“With the 24th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders select Will Grier, quarterback, West Virginia University.”

The Raiders have three first-round picks and eight total selections in the 2019 NFL Draft. They’ll add a player like Nick Bosa or Ed Oliver with their first overall pick (No. 4), but at No. 24 could be searching for Derek Carr‘s replacement. And while Grier’s been projected all over the place in the pre-draft process, teams are starting to think clearly and take him serious.

At WVU, Grier compiled 7,354 passing yards and 71 touchdowns over just two seasons of play, ranking third and second all-time at WVU, respectively. If he played a third season in Morgantown, he’d have sole possession of nearly every record.

Grier’s stats don’t seem to be what turn scouts away, though. Instead, they’re bothered with physical traits like his height (6-foot-2), whether the system he thrived in will translate to NFL success, and trivial matters like him being suspended as a freshman at Florida.

With the acquisition of Antonio Brown, the clock is officially ticking on Derek Carr in Oakland. And if the Raiders don’t hit the ground running, Jon Gruden could have a disgruntled wide receiver on his hands rather quickly. Why not have a backup plan that includes a player like Grier?
